What is Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture?
Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture ( also call Cosmetic Acupunctures ) is a painless, non-surgical method of reducing the signs of the aging process. Though Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture can sometimes be referred to as an ‘Acupuncture Facelift’, it is more than a cosmetic procedure. It is a rejuvenation and revitalisation process designed to help the whole body look and feel younger.
The treatment is based on the principles of Chinese Medicine and involves the insertion of hair-thin needles into particular areas of the face, ears, neck, hands, trunk, and legs along channels containing a substance called Qi. Specific points are chosen to manipulate the movement of Qi in the body according to the individual's needs.
Thousands of years ago the Chinese discovered that many channels either begin or end on the face while some have internal branches that go to the face. Thus, practitioners of Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture know how to specifically affect the face while simultaneously treating the underlying factors that contribute to the aging process.
How Does Cosmetic Acupuncture Work?
The treatment stimulates local circulation of blood and lymph to the face, improves muscle tone, encourages tightening of the pores and brightens the eyes. It greatly reduces stress evident in the face, bringing out the beauty within.
Facial Acupuncture treats the whole person; it slows the aging process from within and brings out a person’s innate beauty and radiance. This is not just a facelift but a holistic treatment which aims to restore balance. Many notice other health benefits such as reduction in stress levels, fewer headaches, better appetite and weight regulation, more energy, better sleep and a brighter outlook on life.
What To Expect At Your First Consultation
At the first appointment, a full assessment of the patient’s medical history and any underlying health problems is taken. A discussion takes place as to which areas of the face you would like to improve or have concerns. The treatment involves inserting hair-thin needles into specific points on the face. Some body points may also be used to improve your general constitutional energy. The needles will be left in place for 20 minutes. The process is virtually painless and very relaxing. Following this the needles are removed. A variety of other traditional techniques may be used such as |
using a Jade Roller or a ‘tiger warmer’ to stimulate the circulation. Jade rollers can be used around the eyes to reduce dark circles.
A course of approximately 6 – 12 treatments is recommended. Most patients notice a difference after one or two treatments, however, the effects become most noticeable and lasting after 6 treatments. Each person responds differently, depending on the condition of their skin and lifestyle prior to treatment. Following the initial course of treatment, maintenance treatments of 1 to 2 times a month can prolong the results for five to ten years.
Solid Jade has a soothing effect on the nervous system. Chinese and Japanese women kept these on their dressing tables to use as part of their daily routine. They left their skin looking refreshed and radiant. The treatment is finished off with a facial massage using special organic oils. The whole procedure is extremely relaxing and therapeutic.
Is Facial Acupuncture Safe?
Facial Acupuncture is a very safe treatment, it has none of the side-effects that invasive procedures such as surgery and Botox have. However, it must be noted that on rare occasions slight bruising may occur at the site of the needle, however, this disappears within a few days. Facial Acupuncture is also not suitable for people with high blood pressure, or people who bruise or bleed very easily or who are on any blood thinning medication. |
Who Would Benefit From Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture ?
Anyone concerned with looking and feeling younger and slowing down the ageing process. The decision to begin treatment may be professionally or personally inspired or a combination of both. Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture is suitable for those with deep wrinkles, fine lines, bags under the eyes, sagging, puffiness, drooping eyelids, double chin, large pores, dry skin, or acne. Different methods are emphasized and specific points stimulated according to how an individual is ageing. A person with excess puffiness, for example, would require a different treatment than someone with dry skin. The whole person is treated and evaluated on the body-mind continuum - the foundation of Holistic Medicine.
What Is The Course Of Treatment ?
Generally, it consists of 10 treatments. The effects become most noticeable and lasting on or about the seventh session. Each person responds differently, depending on his or her condition and lifestyle prior to treatment. Following the initial course of treatment, maintenance sessions can prolong the results for five to ten years. It is often recommended to supplement the treatment with facial self-massage and/or Acupressure, Herbal and Nutritional Supplements, and a healthy diet.
Does It Really Make A Difference ?
The effectiveness of Acupuncture is due to its direct manipulation of the body's energy system – balancing, removing blockages or adding energy when necessary. A 1996 report in the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture reported that among 300 cases treated with Facial Acupuncture, 90% had marked effects with one course of treatment. The effects included: the skin becoming delicate and fair, improvement of the elasticity of facial muscles and levelling of wrinkles, a ruddier complexion, and overall rejuvenation not confined to the face.
Why Choose Cosmetic Acupuncture Over A Surgical Face-Lift ?
Whilst not a replacement for surgery, Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture is an excellent alternative. It is far less costly than cosmetic surgery, is safe, virtually painless, and has no side effects or risk of disfigurement. Unlike surgery that may have an extended recovery period with swelling and discoloration, there is no trauma from Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture. While Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture cannot reshape one's nose or chin, it is a more subtle rejuvenation that takes years off one's face–safely and naturally while improving overall health.
Are There Any Contraindications ?
It is contraindicated for some pituitary disorders, heart disorders, diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, individuals who have a pacemaker or who have a problem with bleeding or bruising, or who currently suffer from migraine headaches. Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture should not be done during pregnancy, during a bout of cold or flu, during an allergic attack, or during an acute herpes outbreak.

and dysfunction to continue within the body. Acupuncture is an excellent alternative for cosmetic surgery, and potentially dangerous cosmetic procedures such as botox. Far less costly than cosmetic surgery, it is safe, having no risk of disfigurement or side effects other than bruising. Unlike those kinds of procedures which may require an extended recovery period with swelling and discolouration, there is no trauma from facial revitalisation acupuncture. Obviously, facial revitalisation acupuncture cannot reshape one’s nose, but it can achieve a more subtle rejuvenation that takes years off one’s face, safely and naturally while most importantly, improving overall health.
